About the Blog
Living in Cairo is madness. The last remaining Wonder of the Ancient World looms over a Pizza Hut. Donkey carts battle SUV’s for supremacy over congested roads, where the Super Mario Kart traffic either moves at breakneck speed, or not at all. Elegant Islamic monuments peer down on colourful bazaars, where you can haggle over anything from a kilo of intestines to a kilo of cardamon. If you really like cardamon, that is.
The sights, sounds and smells are intoxicating, a maelstrom of delicious chaos. I want to share them with you.
This blog is about living, working and travelling in Cairo, Egypt and beyond. Although it’s kind of a travel blog, I don’t intend on giving much travel advice. There’s enough of that around the Interwebs already. If you do want Cairo travel advice, check out NileGuide’s interactive trip planning guide to Cairo (I’m their Local Expert), or the blog I write for them. Also, feel free to hit me up with any questions.
I’m also not big into lists, or top ten style posts. A few might creep in here and there, but it’s really people and place that interest me. Narratives; snapshots; the quirky stuff that makes the world go round. I’m sure I’ll chuck in some self-indulgent musings on life, the universe and everything as well, presented through the filter of my experiences here.
Because really, it’s not just Cairo that is delicious chaos, but this whole crazy-wonderful-confusing dance that we call life. Living in Egypt is a privilege which helps you appreciate this. This blog is my attempt to show you what I mean.
I hope you enjoy looking around the site. As you’ll no doubt have noticed, it’s something of a work in progress at the minute. Let me know what you think, and what you want to read. Criticism is more than welcome, though preferably of the constructive kind that won’t upset my mum too much. Either leave a comment, or drop me a line. Thanks!
